Summary: “Larger-than-Life Filmmaker Werner Herzog once said, “Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness.” In maybe a different period of time, some of us would have laughed off the question “Is Civilization on the Brink of Extinction?” Not anymore. It’s feeling pretty damn close. For this call, how can we confront both the macrocosmic question here but also the microcosmic? We are not looking for artists to apply work that gives off a sense of sociopolitical superiority, however true and accurate those views may be. Where are we also unraveling? Where are we on the brink? The work, most importantly, needs to express visceral urgency, dropping us into a maze where intellectual confusion is invited and encouraged. Artists accepted will be showing in the center of Denver’s most popular art district, with thousands attending our First Friday Art Walks.”
