Repurposing Content to Save Creative Energy
One of the most common frustrations expressed by artists who are trying to maintain an online presence is the amount of creative energy it takes to constantly be thinking of content to put out. Your creative energy is too valuable to be spending it on content creation. Here’s a tip: start with a piece of long form content like a newsletter or video, then break up that content into 5-6 smaller posts.
Think of your long form work like a large mural. From a distance, it tells one complete story. But if you look closer you’ll see that each section is filled with details worth highlighting. The same is true for your content.
Here’s a few ways you can break long form content down:
Pull key quotes or insights. Turn one strong sentence into a standalone post.
Highlight process steps. If you produce a process video of you working on a piece, break it up into stages and highlight each stage in it’s own post.
Extract themes. If your piece touches on inspiration, technique, or a particular challenge, each of those topics can be its own short post.
Ask questions. Turn parts of your content into conversation starters.
Recycle from different platforms. A long blog post can become a thread on X or a series of Instagram carousel slides.
You don’t have to create something entirely new each time you post. One long form piece of content can easily become 5-10 smaller posts. You don’t always need to reinvent, you just need to repackage. The beauty of this approach is that you’re not just saving time, you’re actually allowing your ideas to breathe and giving audiences the opportunity to connect in small bursts which often keeps them more engaged and excited for more.
